The role of arthropods in the transmission of leprosy.

چکیده
As Kirchheimer (1973) has pointed out, the unsatisfactory state of knowledge of the transmission of Hansen's disease is apparent from the disagreements about the portal of entry of Mycobacterium leprae into the human body. Weddell and his associates (1963) have cast doubt upon the bel ief in the preval ence of the dermal route of infection subscribed to by most leprologists. Furthermore, it is worth noting that not even the protagoni sts of the hypothesis of dermal ' entrance are in agreement among themse lves on the nature of the infecting event. Some I ike Khanolkar (1963) have stressed th e nece ss ity of persist ent and intimate contact with human cases of leprosy in an infectious state. Dungal (1960 , 1961) on th e other hand, comes out in favor of accidental infection by ectoparasites or parasites of the skin.

The study comparatively assessed the impacts of farm activities on the abundance and diversity of soil arthropods and soil physico-chemical parameters of the Practical Year Training Programme (PYTP) farmlands, University of Ibadan, South Western Nigeria. Soil arthropods were collected from September, 2010 to February, 2011 in five sampling sites of PYTP farmlands using Berlese Tullgren Extracti...
متن کاملEctoparasitic infestations of the European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) in Urmia city, Iran: First report
Hedgehogs are small, nocturnal mammals that become popular in the world and have significant role in transmission of zoonotic agents. Some of the agents are transmitted by ticks and fleas such as rickettsial agents. For these reason, a survey on ectoparasites in European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) carried out between April 2006 and December 2007 from different parts of Urmia city, ...

متن کاملPCR screening of the Wolbachia in some arthropods and nematodes in Khuzestan province
Wolbachia is an obligatory, intracellular α-proteobacterium which infect the reproductive and somatic tissues of some arthropod and nematode populations. Because there are not any available data on the presence of this bacterium in Iran, the present study was done to determine the presence of this bacterium among 30 species of arthropods and nematodes. After DNA extraction from samples, we scre...
متن کاملAssessment of vocation of rifabutin and rifapentine in replace of rifampcin in drug resistance leprosy patients: a molecular simulation study
The emergence of drug resistance in leprosy is a major hurdle in leprosy elimination programme. Although the problem of drug resistance is presently not acute, it is important that we collect data more systematically and monitor the trend carefully so that effective measures to combat this problem can be developed. The present study aimed at the explication of cross resistance of rifabutin and ...
